  • Not Watching Watchmen

So yesterday I was chilling with church people after the Missions Conference. I was rounding up some people who were interested in watching Race to Witch Mountain, and along the way the movie Watchmen came up. This was totally a movie I wanted to see until someone mentioned that it had a sex scene(2) in it.

Okay, so what’s the big deal? Well, the big deal is that sex and lust is something our culture has come to take way too lightly. Even worse, Christians have come to take the it way too lightly. Sexual temptation is a specific sin we are commanded to flee from in God’s word. It is something that I’ve struggled with, and not watching this movie is a necessary step I must take to flee from temptation.

I urge any of you who actually call yourself a “Christian” or a follower of Christ not to watch Watchmen. If you are serious about your faith and actually care about the moral and personal will of God(1), it will be something to think over. I’ve avoided movies in the past, and I’ve watched movies I’ve come to regret.

I won’t pretend like I’m a holy man of God without temptation. I haven’t figured out all the ways to avoid temptation and probably never will. However, I have a strong conviction that taking such actions is Biblical and is something God desires from all His followers.

    (1) and if you don’t give a crap about the moral and personal will of God as a Christian, maybe you should rethink your faith.
    (2) turns out there is a LOT more happening than just a sex scene. Thanks to Paul Liu for research.

PS. This isn’t just for guys. Being a girl is no excuse to push sexual temptation aside. But I’m sure you already knew that.
