    • How Not to Ask For Counseling
My pastor told me that when most people go to them for advice, they don't really go for the advice. They just want to hear the pastor affirm or justify their concerns.
    • Happy Birthday to Me!
To be honest, I almost forgot about my own birthday. I didn't realize it was coming up until a friend reminded me. I remember the days when I would count down to April 25th, my special day with friends and presents. I could relish the newfound respect as everyone acknowledged my age counter tick up. The irony is that…

  • This Christmas

Many of you are reading this right now because you have been tagged on Facebook. You were randomly selected from among my Christian friends. If you are a believer but were not tagged, fear not – this is still for you. That said, you have officially been challenged to a life-changing feat.

Every Christmas, I witness as a handful of believers reveal the true “reason for the season.” Some update their Facebook with Bible verses. Others request prayer for their lost friends. A few will sacrifice their holiday in order to minister to the homeless and serve food at the shelters. I encourage all of you to continue to do so, as these things further the kingdom of God.

The challenge you have been invited to, however, requires you to think beyond the obvious, to step into a ring of higher commitment. One that will make your walk with God more powerful and intimate.

And here it is – Make this Christmas different.

Maybe this is the year you actually share the gospel with that friend, because you know that simply praying for them doesn’t fulfill your responsibility to witness. For some of you, it may mean sacrificing a comfortable friendship.

Or maybe it’s the Christmas you refrain from buying that gift for yourself and donate the money to charity instead. You may even decide to sponsor a child in Africa, a commitment that will allow you to share the gospel over years of handwritten letters.

It may be the year you lovingly confront a brother or sister in Christ of a sin and remind them that Christ was slaughtered on the cross for our wrongdoings. Because you realize that loving them goes beyond gifts and friendship.

Pray about this challenge, and find out what God wants from you this Christmas. If you decide to commit to the challenge, please let me know so that I can keep you in prayer. I would also love intercession from each of you as I do the same.

Lastly, keep in mind that your actions must transcend the season of Christmas. The holiday itself is not a call to action; God is your call to action. Never forget that Christ is worth the daily self-sacrifice He demands.

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
